Composer, conductor, and bandleader Vanessa Perica explores integrating hooks into pieces to generate interest, create cohesion, and give the audience something to latch onto using her award-winning composition “Spaccanapoli” and other large ensemble works.
About the Presenting Artists(s)
Vanessa Perica is a composer, arranger, conductor and bandleader based in Melbourne, Australia. Among other accolades she has won the APRA Art Music, and Australian Jazz Bell Awards for ‘Work of the Year’, as well as the Music Victoria Award for ‘Best Jazz Album’ for her critically acclaimed debut, ‘Love is a Temporary Madness’. Vanessa has been commissioned by the likes of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the Australian String Quartet, Ryan Truesdell, and the Australian National Jazz Orchestra. Most recently, she released her second studio album, 'The Eye is the First Circle'. This was launched at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, and has just received an ARIA award nomination for Best Jazz Album. She was named winner of the Society of Composers Jazz Composition Award in 2022 and 2023, and the recipient of the 2024 APRA Professional Development Award. Vanessa is a Yamaha Artist, and the conductor for the Ministry of Sound Classical Australian National Tour.
