Annie Booth, composer, pianist, and bandleader, explores strategies for setting poetry to music, considering imagery, meaning, and structure, and recontextualizing the poem to make it your own using her pieces “Beauty (Under Sun, Under Moon)” and “Le Voyage.”

About the Presenting Artists(s)

Annie Booth is a versatile and award-winning composer, arranger, and jazz pianist from Denver, CO. She has received international recognition for her work as a composer with awards and grants from the likes of Chamber Music America, ASCAP, ISJAC, Downbeat Magazine, and many others. As a bandleader, Booth has released seven albums with ensembles she leads ranging from trio to large chamber jazz ensemble. Additionally, Booth is a respected jazz educator and appears frequently across North America as a guest artist-educator at high schools, universities, and as a guest conductor of all-state jazz ensembles. She serves as Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Boulder’s Thompson Jazz Studies Program teaching jazz composition, arranging, and jazz piano. In 2023, she co-founded Brava Jazz Publishing, the only outlet of its kind that exclusively supports and distributes the work of women composers and arrangers in the field of jazz.
