Violinist & composer Lauren Elizabeth Baba explores the relationship between through-composition & improvisation, aiming to thread them together seamlessly, using her piece "Marigold".

About the Presenting Artists(s)

Lauren Elizabeth Baba is a violinist, violist, composer, arranger, and improviser living in Los Angeles, specializing in performing and composing creative improvised music, and serving as curator and producer of the “Big Band Nights” music series at Art Share L.A. With her 17-piece experimental big band, theBABAorchestra, she has self-produced and released two albums: 2019’s “Marigold”, and 2017’s “Another Ride on the Elephant Slide”, under her label “Thirsty Owl Records” and will be releasing another next year. As a top up-and-coming female big band composers and bandleaders, she has gained critical acclaim and recognition from the creative music scene, including reviews and features in Downbeat and JAZZIZ, commissions through Los Angeles Jazz Society’s “New Note Artist Award” in 2018, and the inaugural ISJAC “Fundamental Freedoms Commission” in 2022.
