About the Presenting Artists(s)

Paul Read is a composer, arranger, pianist, saxophonist, and educator. He leads his own big band: the Paul Read Orchestra, and for 20 years was pianist/arranger with the Trish Colter Sextet. In 1991, he founded the Jazz Studies program at the University of Toronto were he was Director of Jazz Studies and Graduate Jazz Studies. Before that, Paul was a member of the Humber College Music Faculty in Toronto from 1979 to 1991. He has also been Blog Curator for the International Society of Jazz Arrangers and Composers (ISJAC), was Canada’s representative on the Executive Board of the International Association for Jazz Education (IAJE), and was the Founding Director of the National Music Camp of Canada (NMC) Jazz Program from 1987 to 2006. Paul served for many years on the faculty of other summer jazz camps such as the Ken Kistner Jazz Camp, and the Prairielands Jazz Camp in Regina, Saskatchewan, and is the composer of the bestselling 'Birdsong' for SSA choir published by Boosey and Hawkes.
