About the Presenting Artists(s)

Tracy Yang is a New York-based composer, arranger, performer, and photographer, originally from Taiwan. Yang’s composition "Sea of Clouds" received the Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and Manny Albam Commission from the BMI Jazz Composers' Workshop in 2021. The commission piece "Sea Swell" was premiered in June 2022 in New York at Dizzy's Jazz at Lincoln Center. Yang was both the Winner and Honorable Mention of the 2018 Jazz Composition Contest for Women Composers from Seattle Women’s Jazz Orchestra (SWOJO). The performance was part of the Earshot Jazz Festival in Seattle and featured Sheryl Bailey as a guest artist. She was also part of the 2019 Young Composer Showcase selectees from JEN (Jazz Education Network). The 2019 JEN YCS was performed by the Army Jazz Ambassadors at the JEN conference in Reno, Nevada. Yang has worked with many different jazz ensembles, including The Army Jazz Ambassadors, Seattle Women Jazz Orchestra, BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra, and Taipei Jazz Orchestra. Additionally, Yang has been a grant recipient from institutions such as The Queens Council on the Arts, Passim Iguana Music Fund, and Taiwan National Culture and Arts Foundation. Yang released her first EP “The 217 Diaries” in early 2021 and is hard at work on her upcoming jazz orchestra album.
