About the Presenting Artists(s)

Alan Ferber is a GRAMMY-nominated trombonist, composer and bandleader, and Adjunct Professor of Jazz Studies at New York University’s Steinhardt School. He has released eight albums as a bandleader. 2017’s “Jigsaw”, was GRAMMY-nominated for ‘Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album.’ 2016’s “Roots & Transitions”, an eight-movement original piece for nonet, was GRAMMY-nominated for ‘Best Instrumental Composition’ for his composition “Flow”. Ferber’s 2013 big band release, “March Sublime”, was GRAMMY-nominated as ‘Best Large Jazz Ensemble Album’. As a writer, Ferber has recently collaborated with artists including Jared Schonig, Jon Gordon, Laila Biali, GRAMMY-nominated violinist Sara Caswell, Broadway star Shoshana Bean, and Tutu Puoane with the Brussels Jazz Orchestra. Ferber was the recipient of a 2013 New Jazz Works grant from Chamber Music America, funded by the Doris Duke Foundation. As a trombonist, Ferber has performed and/or recorded with Esperanza Spalding’s Radio Music Society, the Dr. Lonnie Smith Octet, the Ted Nash Big Band, Miguel Zenon’s Identities Big Band, the Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra, the Lee Konitz Nonet, and the John Hollenbeck Large Ensemble among others.
